"Good things come to those who wait"
And
I would agree.
Waiting for the fulfilment of a promise.
Waiting for that job offer, that holiday, those shoes or that perfect dress(!)
Waiting.
The journey to the good can be rife with personal ankhs, much anxiety and trepidation.
Why do we want it NOW.
What is it about the human condition that makes us so desperate for answers now...
the good NOW Lord.
Not the long suffering Lord not now
Not ever, Please and thank you.
What does the long suffering do anyways but just upset us, discourage us and well... just plain old test us.
Waiting and waiting and waiting...
Hmmm
It makes me think of the life story of the farmer, the seed and waiting.
It says in the Good Book that as the farmer waits for the seed to grow and produce fruit so should we.
Recently I was walking in my garden and observed that after fourteen years the Kwanzan cherry tree which supposedly was not to produce fruit....did!
And after fifteen years in the ground and a rainy season...the hydrangea flowered for the first time!
Just as the farmer waits so are we to wait for the fruit which in time comes.
The seed is planted and will yield a crop if not up to ten, then to one hundred fold!
This passage says it well...
"For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth And making it bear and sprout, And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater. So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth. It will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it. "
Isaiah 55:10,11
And,
“There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven”
Ecclesiastes 3:1
And to finish,
"For the vision is yet for the appointed time. It hastens toward the goal and it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it; For it will certainly come, it will not delay.”
Habakkuk 2:3
And so we wait....patiently, for the promise.
