“17 years we’ve been hiding.
When you’re hiding you’re safe because people can’t see you.
But funny thing about hiding,
you’re even hidden from yourself”
Joy Mangano
I thought this phrase was interesting and it peeked my curiosity. It comes from the movie Joy.
This story is about a woman who overcomes many obstacles to find herself and her long lost dreams.
I would highly recommend a viewing or two!
What captured my attention in this quote was the concept of hiding...
The question is :
What makes any of us hide?
Why do we hide in the first place... from ourselves, our own abilities, potential or talents.
.....Is it the fear of being who we really are, the fear of taking a risk?
Or is it the fear of failure or fear of rejection? I
n this story, life and all its pressures contribute to the extinguishing of the dream. But as the story unfolds, Joy, the main character, awakens to the gift she has known was present in her all along and with fearless gumption pursues her abilities boldly and without recanting.
This movie touched me and awakened me to question what are the seeds, gifts and talents that are hidden in my heart that need to be awakened by the Creator who put them there.
For some of us, these have been dormant for many years.
Perhaps this is a season of the awakening of those “hidden treasures in dark places”.
Perhaps, the One, who planted these has inspired some to water and care for the gifts that have been dormant.
I believe some of us have been hiding for too long....
and as they say....
‘The times they are changing’.
And it is time for Godly women to be awakened to their hearts and what they are called to be. Just as Joy awakens to her gifts... It is time, I believe, to be true to you, to honour you. It’s time for women to rise up to their God given callings and bring their gifts to the table...because the world is waiting.
