One late afternoon at the beginning of the year 2018, as I was driving across our bridge returning home, I saw large birds, ones that looked like eagles. I’m not sure if they were, but what was interesting about them was that as they were flying they looked suspended in the air and by this I mean their wings were opened but they were not using them.
What captured my attention was that they were not having to make any efforts just glide suspended by the wind, completely at rest high up in the sky.
It was beautiful to see.
No effort, just rest.
High up in the sky, no movement and hovering in a stationary position.
What was unusual was that this scene lasted a long time, it seemed as though they were caught in a wind current and were riding it not having to use their wings.
As I watched this (it ministered to me) I sensed that perhaps this new year would be one where we would soar without having to battle,
that we would 'ride on eagles wings' and flow with the wind of the Spirit.
As I looked at the birds, riding the wind that carried them, I sensed that perhaps just like these there was for us a momentum created from the ground work that had been fought for in intercession by intercessors and now we could ride the wind of our efforts.
No need to work but let the Holy Spirit do the work and just enjoy the ride.
It was a sight to see, these birds playing in the sky, having fun with the wind!
As I drove home I left this moment feeling renewed on some level with a sense of wonder at God’s workmanship.
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary, and they shall walk, and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:31 KJV
